The Freedom to Vote Act is a landmark piece of legislation that would strengthen our democracy and improve ballot access nationwide.
We urgently need transformative democracy reforms to protect against the influence of special interests and stop Republican voter suppression tactics that predominantly disenfranchise Black and brown voters.
Additionally, the Freedom to Vote Act would make voting easier and more accessible for young people. Not only would this bill allow student IDs as acceptable forms of voter identification, it would also require polling locations on college campuses.
The Freedom to Vote Act would make our government more responsive to the needs of the people and help restore faith in our democracy; however, it’s unlikely to pass the Senate unless the Democratic majority agrees to abolish the filibuster — an obsolete relic of the Jim Crow era that Mitch McConnell has abused to block most major legislation.
Democrats in the Senate now must choose between keeping the filibuster or keeping their promises. It’s that simple.
Urge your senators to end the filibuster and protect our right to vote by passing the Freedom to Vote Act.
