On the campaign trail, Joe Biden promised to reform our nation’s racist drug policies by decriminalizing marijuana and expunging the records of those with federal marijuana convictions.
As president, he now has the power to issue a pardon to those individuals and go even further by supporting the legalization of marijuana at the federal level. Though there is much work to be done to rectify the wrongs of decades of racist drug policies, this would be an important step toward justice.
Marijuana policies in the United States were designed to incarcerate communities of color — and law enforcement continues to disproportionately target Black and brown people for marijuana-related arrests.
Take action and urge President Biden to legalize marijuana and expunge past records.
