NextGen Climate Will Run TV, Digital and Print Ads Calling on Candidates to Lay Out a Plan to Tackle Climate Change, Expand Clean Energy
During coverage of tonight’s Republican presidential debate, NextGen Climate President Tom Steyer will appear in a television ad to directly call on our leaders to solve climate change by embracing America’s growing clean energy economy. NextGen Climate will air two television ads—“Even More,” which features Steyer, and “Who We Are”—during the debate on CNN as part of a six-figure buy. NextGen Climate is also releasing a new digital ad, “Rabble,” and running print ads in USA Today and The Las Vegas Sun calling on candidates to lay out a specific plan to achieve more than 50 percent clean energy by 2030.
“Any presidential candidate who refuses to embrace clean energy is putting themselves at odds with the American people—and Republican voters,” said NextGen Climate President Tom Steyer. “Investing in clean energy will help solve climate change, create millions of jobs and put more money in Americans’ pockets. Is the Republican presidential field really going to ignore this tremendous economic opportunity?”

In advance of tonight’s debate, NextGen Climate is engaging voters online with a new interactive digital tool that allows users to create social media share graphics calling out GOP candidate for being out of step with the 72 percent of Republicans who support transitioning to clean energy. The tool enables social media users to demand candidates lay out a plan to address climate change and build a clean energy economy.
Clean energy already powers 18 million homes and supports over a million jobs in the United States—and in the key presidential state of Iowa has helped create over 6,000 jobs. But America can do even more. By further investing in America’s growing clean energy economy, we can create millions of more jobs, cut families’ energy bills, raise household disposable income and grow our economy. At tonight’s debate, it’s time for Republican candidates to seize America’s clean energy opportunity and lay out a plan to achieve more than 50 percent clean energy by 2030.
