The video is the latest in a series of viral celebrity videos to engage millennials in battleground states
SAN FRANCISCO—Today, NextGen Climate released a new video in which Emmy-winning actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus endorses Hillary Clinton for President and four Democratic candidates for Senate. Louis-Dreyfus colorfully describes the importance of not only electing electing Hillary Clinton, but also electing climate champions like Hillary Clinton, Katie McGinty, Catherine Cortez Masto, Maggie Hassan and Deborah Ross to the U.S. Senate.
The video will run as part of a six-figure digital buy nationally and will be shared through social media platforms in the key battleground states of Pennsylvania, Nevada, New Hampshire and North Carolina.
“Hi millennials. I’m Julia Louis-Dreyfus, your parents’ favorite performer from something called the television,” Louis-Dreyfus jokes in the video. “For President Clinton to keep this country moving forward, she’s going to need support in the Senate. So on November 8th, side out of those DMs, take a break from Pokemon Go, if that’s still a thing, and vote….”
NextGen Climate has partnered with Aziz Ansari, Ben Affleck, and Natalie Portman to create videos that speak to young people authentically about the stakes this election. The group is engaging millennials in substantial conversations on the candidates and issues they care about, and using innovative tactics like Pokemon Go meet-ups and puppies at the polls to make sure they register and vote in this crucial election.
“Climate change is the most urgent challenge we face, and we know that young voters overwhelmingly support candidates who will support the transition to a clean energy economy,” said NextGen Climate President Tom Steyer. “That’s why we’re so happy Julia Louis-Dreyfus took some time off from playing president to help us engage millennials and urge them to vote for the real president.”
NextGen Climate has been registering millennials to vote, educating them about where candidates stand on key issues, and encouraging them to turnout to vote in the largest campus program in this election on over 300 campuses in 13 key battleground states. The group has been on the ground having peer-to-peer conversations in these states, and will continue to educate and turnout millennials for climate champions until Election Day.
