Throughout the month of June, NextGen and partners will educate and mobilize young people on LGBTQIA+ issues and the power of their vote
Washington, D.C. — Today, NextGen America, the largest youth vote organization in the country, launched their 2024 Pride campaign to honor LGBTQIA+ accomplishments and to commemorate the ongoing pursuit of equity for the queer community. To amplify these efforts, NextGen America is hosting events online and on-the-ground with a goal to engage, organize, and activate young voters across the nation.
As part of the 2024 Pride celebrations, NextGen will host a virtual Pride Week of Action from June 25 to June 27 featuring events that will educate, mobilize, and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as digital actions directing young voters to call and write their representatives and advocate for legislation that protects queer youth. On the ground, NextGen staff will hold voter registration booths at Pride events in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
“Pride Month is a time to honor the contributions, strength, and spirit of the LGBTQIA+ community,” NextGen America President Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez said. “As extremists continue to attack queer youth, it is more important than ever to join together and use our voice for change. We are proud to elevate the voices of queer youth, and we look forward to celebrating Pride with programming, both online and in-person, empowering young people to mobilize for a more equitable and inclusive society.”
Efforts to engage young voters on LGBTQIA+ rights is especially important as nearly 30% of Gen Z adults identify as LGBTQIA+. Additional Pride month work includes posts on Instagram and TikTok highlighting current anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation, content from queer creators, and LGBTQIA+ history and culture.
