Student athletes will provide voting resources to millions of young voters on social media
Washington, D.C. — Today, in an effort to register, activate, and mobilize young voters ahead of the November election, House Majority Forward has announced a $750,000 investment in NextGen America’s innovative athlete influencer program. As a part of the initiative, NextGen America will work with student athletes both online and on the ground to serve as trusted messengers in an effort to mobilize young voters to register to vote, pledge to vote, and make their voices heard this November.
The campaigns will collaborate with athletes on college campuses in the key states of Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The investment from House Majority Forward will enable NextGen America to work closely with athletes on a consistent basis. This includes multiple social media posts, as well as in-person engagements, like on campus tabling events and participating in class activations.
“House Majority Forward could not be more ecstatic to partner with NextGen America on this innovative program on college campuses across the country,” said Abby Curran Horrell, Executive Director of House Majority Forward. “We look forward to building relationships with trustworthy leaders in Michigan, Virginia, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Arizona over the coming weeks.”
“We are excited to work with House Majority Forward to continue our groundbreaking youth voter mobilization campaign with college athletes, ” said Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez, President and Executive Director of NextGen America. “Mobilizing young voters requires strategic partnerships and a multi-faceted approach. In order to strengthen our youth movement of civic engagement, it is essential to collaborate with trusted voices in the community, both in-person and online. College athletes are powerful, impactful leaders and we are proud to work with these young changemakers, with House Majority Forward’s support, to build a better, more representative democracy.”
Athlete partnerships with NextGen’s influencer program are capitalizing on the recent NIL rules, which allow athletes to profit on their name, image, and likeness. This type of partnership marks a ground-breaking use of NIL to support civic engagement. This investment is a part of NextGen America’s 2024 work contacting millions of young voters encouraging them to participate in our democracy and build a government that works for all of us.
