Washington, D.C. – Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez, NextGen America’s President and Executive Director, is stepping down from the organization after an impactful four years. During her tenure, Cristina helped to elevate and grow the organization’s ability to mobilize America’s young people and build a government that works for them. Cristina grew NextGen’s work and profile by leveraging her two decades of non-profit leadership and acumen in movement and grassroots power-building. Victoria Yang, who most recently served as NextGen America’s Senior Advisor and previously served as Vice President of Development at NextGen America, will be stepping in as NextGen America’s Interim Executive Director.
“I have always put my faith in America’s young people to drive the change our country needs. It is their imagination, courage and impatience that has always made our country tackle the biggest issues of our time and make great leaps forward,”said Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez. “I’m proud of NextGen’s pivotal electoral victories and successful ballot initiatives that protected abortion access and expanded voting rights for America’s youth. During my tenure, we created groundbreaking campaigns, such as Men’s Voter Power (MVP), which engages young men of color through issues, culture, and sports – establishing a blueprint for progressive outreach to this crucial demographic.”
“We are grateful for Cristina’s impact during her tenure at NextGen. Her leadership reshaped the organization – diversifying our funding sources, Board composition, and staff. This evolution enabled us to create powerful and culturally resonant programs that effectively engaged and mobilized the most diverse generation in American history to exercise their electoral power,” said Ted White, Board Chair of NextGen America.
“NextGen remains an essential pillar in the progressive infrastructure, ready to counter the Trump Administration while building organizing power for young people determined to address our era’s defining challenges: climate change, extreme inequality, and the preservation of democracy,” Tzintzún Ramirez stated. “That’s why I remain committed to supporting this organization and its next generation of leadership.”
