Youth vote organization will engage students during move-in on campuses across the country
Washington, DC — Today, NextGen America kicked off Welcome Week on eleven college campuses across the country. NextGen America is celebrating Welcome Week by educating students on the impacts of the Trump Administration’s policies on and off campus and engaging them on their top issues as they reconvene on campus during August and September.
Throughout Welcome Week, NextGen America organizers and volunteers will host issue education events on college campuses, including the University of Virginia (UVA), University of Michigan, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, among others. At the University of Virginia, NextGen organizers will be hosting a “Thank you Jim Ryan” event, which will educate students on the ousting of former UVA President, Jim Ryan, and the impacts of the Trump Administration on higher education and student life.
“In a moment where student’s rights on college campuses are under threat, our work to educate, empower, and organize young people to increase civic engagement has never been more essential,” Victoria Yang, Interim Executive Director of NextGen America said. “Young people are experiencing first-hand the challenges and dangers of the current Trump Administration – from surging prices on everyday goods like groceries, to limitations on free speech, or climate disasters in their backyard. This Welcome Week, we’re meeting young people on campus and online and empowering them to take action on the issues most important to them.”
NextGen America’s 2025 Welcome Week is focused on educating and empowering young people nationwide to build youth power. When young people are educated, organized and resourced, they can shape culture, build new systems, tackle economic inequality, and fight authoritarianism.
