NextGen America Ignites the Power of Young Voters on National Voter Registration Day

Nation’s largest youth vote organization mobilizes thousands on National Voter Registration Day

Washington, D.C. — Today, NextGen America is celebrating National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) by educating and registering young voters nationwide. On the ground, NextGen’s organizers are hosting events across college campuses in Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Nevada, Virginia, Texas, and New Hampshire to register, activate, and harness young peoples’ power at the ballot box for this cycle and beyond. Online, NextGen’s volunteers are mobilizing young people through dynamic social media outreach and engaging phone banks, as well as collaborations with digital creators.

To build upon these efforts, NextGen America is partnering with Huffpost and Buzzfeed as the official voter registration partner for NVRD across these key states. Today, and every day, NextGen America is committed to ensuring every young person is prepared to make their voice heard in the 2024 elections. NextGen America’s network of changemakers are ensuring that young people everywhere have the resources and support needed to make their voices heard.

“National Voter Registration Day is a celebration of young people’s collective strength and a rallying cry for action,” said Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez, President of NextGen America. “Young people are stepping up with remarkable courage and making it clear – now is the time to demand a future that serves us all. Climate action, reproductive rights, and economic justice are at the forefront of what matters to young people, and we know these critical issues will only advance if we make our voices heard at the polls. With less than 50 days until the election, NextGen’s work on NVRD is a critical step towards building our collective power come November.”

Today marks a pivotal moment for millions of young voters, many stepping into their first presidential election. In 2024, 40.8 million Gen Z voters (ages 18-27) are eligible to vote, including 8.3 million newly eligible (ages 18-19) since the 2022 midterms. As the most diverse and largest generation in U.S. history, young voters now represent nearly one-fifth of the electorate. On this National Voter Registration Day, we urge every young person to embrace their collective power, get registered to vote, and take ownership of our nation’s future.
