NextGen America is Harnessing Art to Fuel Youth Vote Turnout

A cohort of young artists join NextGen America’s efforts to engage new audiences through the power of art and culture

Washington, D.C. — Today NextGen America launched its inaugural Artist Network, a new program that seeks to connect with and galvanize young voters through engaging and creative art pieces. The cohort includes four artists from across the country: Aleiney Finner, Salma Teran, Sanna Legan, and Christian Rincon. Throughout the program, these artists will create art pieces that are culturally competent and speak to issues relevant to their culture, area, and traditions with the goal of mobilizing young voters to take action in their communities.

The pieces of art produced during the fellowship program will be used on NextGen America’s social media and distributed on swag and merchandise in the field to young voters in key states Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia. The artists will also be profiled and highlighted on social media and participate in a video interview created by NextGen to showcase their artistry and their commitment to democracy and young voter mobilization.

“Every major social movement across American history has always been led by young people and fueled by art and culture, ” NextGen America President Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez said. “Art is one of the most powerful ways to educate, inspire, and mobilize young people on the power of their voice and the power of their vote. As we grow our work for 2024, we are committed to connecting and building a program that represents the largest, most diverse generation in American history – and what better way than through culture. The artists we have tapped for this fellowship are insanely talented and we could not be more proud to share their work in the coming year.”

Leading up to the 2024 election, NextGen aims to contact millions of young voters to build on the momentum of young people eager to participate in our democracy and build a government that works for all of us.
