Launches digital ad buy to engage and educate Oregonians across the state
NextGen America’s new digital ad will begin running on Friday and directs Oregonians to a landing page with more information on the benefits of the Clean Energy Jobs Act.
PORTLAND — Today, NextGen America jumped into Oregon’s cap-and-invest fight with a new advocacy campaign to urge Oregonians to support the Clean Energy Jobs Act. As part of the campaign, NextGen America announced a $75,000 digital ad buy and a partnership with grassroots organization Renew Oregon to expand the coalition supporting climate action, helping recruit business, faith, and community leaders who will endorse the proposal publicly.
Earlier this year, NextGen America mobilized Californians to support cap-and-trade and air quality legislation, and will build off that success to help Oregonians move their state forward in 2018.
“With a dysfunctional government in our nation’s capitol, it’s now up to states, like Oregon, to stand up to the Trump Administration’s attacks on our fundamental rights,” said NextGen America President Tom Steyer. “In 2018, the country will be looking to Oregon to prove that there is a cleaner, more prosperous path forward without Washington, D.C, one that puts people before oil corporations, protects clean air and water, and creates good-paying clean energy jobs.”
Despite Republicans’ efforts at the federal level to prop up dangerous and uneconomic fossil fuels, in 2017, California reauthorized its cap-and-trade program and passed companion air quality legislation, states and cities across the country announced their plans to uphold Paris Agreement targets, and new Governors pledging to take climate action were elected in Virginia and New Jersey. Leaders across the country are now watching the cap-and-invest debate in Oregon to see whether momentum for strong climate action at the state level will carry over into 2018.
NextGen America’s first digital ad directs Oregonians to a landing page with more information on the benefits of the Clean Energy Jobs Act and asks them to sign up and stay engaged in the campaign. The ad will run on Facebook, Twitter, Google Search and popular websites across the state.
Once the legislative session begins in February, NextGen, alongside Renew Oregon, will mobilize its supporters to contact their representatives and make their voices heard in support of clean air and water, and a stronger clean energy economy.
