Allentown, PA — Today, NextGen America launched a new campaign to educate voters in Pennsylvania about John Morganelli’s dangerous record on reproductive health care and immigration. NextGen will spend $100,000 on digital ads, direct mail, and grassroots efforts targeting Morganelli in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional district.
“In 2018, there is no room in the Democratic Party for a man who denies a woman her right to choose and who engages in hateful and dishonest dialogue about immigrant communities. That’s not our values. Americans—and especially young Americans—want leaders who will stand firm for justice and equality, not someone who will side with Trump,” said NextGen America President Tom Steyer. “If we want to win in 2018 and beyond, we need our own bold, optimistic, and progressive vision for the future. Democrats deserve better than John Morganelli.”
John Morganelli’s pro-Trump, anti-abortion, and anti-immigrant record is clear. Following the 2016 election, Morganelli “sent fawning tweets to Trump” and even said he hoped to serve in the Trump Administration. During a recent Democratic candidate forum, when asked about their support for abortion rights, Morganelli was the only candidate not to raise his hand in support. He also opposes sanctuary cities for immigrant families, defended Trump’s decision to end the DACA program and his political action committee has donated to F.A.I.R., a Southern Poverty Law Center-designated hate group.
This is NextGen America’s first direct action against a candidate in a primary in 2018, and the organization’s second primary action against a candidate in history. NextGen America’sdigital ad will run on Facebook and Instagram through the May 15th primary. NextGen’s work with young voters in Pennsylvania is part of NextGen Rising — the largest youth organizing program in American history to register, engage, and mobilize young voters, on and off campuses, across eleven states ahead of November 6th, 2018.
