NextGen America Responds to SCOTUS Ruling in Trump’s Illegal Birthright Citizenship Challenge

In response to the Supreme Court ruling in Trump v. CASA, NextGen America Interim President Victoria Yang released the following statement:

“Birthright citizenship has been the law of the land for over a century, and no president has the power to rewrite the Constitution through Executive Order. Birthright citizenship impacts millions of people across the country, especially young people, and is an essential part of our country’s founding values. Trump’s proposed policy is not intended to solve any immigration challenges, it is only designed to fuel confusion, discrimination, and separate families and communities.

“The guarantee of birthright citizenship is laid out in the Fourteenth Amendment and President Trump’s executive order is a racist and unlawful attempt to limit the constitutional right to citizenship by birth. Today’s Supreme Court decision weakens a critical check on presidential power — making it harder to stop unconstitutional, harmful policies before they take effect. That’s not just a legal shift; it’s a threat to real people’s lives. We need leaders and courts that uphold the Constitution, not bend to political fearmongering.
