In response to Virginia election officials unlawfully rejecting the voter registration applications from college students who live on campus, NextGen America Interim President Victoria Yang released the following statement:
“This is a blatant and unlawful attempt to silence the voices of students on college campuses across the state. Young people attending college are essential members of their local communities, and we must protect their voices.
“Thousands of students want to make their voices heard on Election Day, but instead their right to vote is being attacked. Young people already face many barriers to voting, and it is imperative that we do all we can to empower young people to exercise their constitutional right to vote, not find ways to unlawfully limit it.
“Young people want to have their voices heard. They want safe, fair, and accessible elections. We will defend the right of every voter to be heard, because democracy only works when all of us can participate.”
