NextGen America Statement on Green New Deal Resolution

Today, Sen. Edward Markey (D-Mass.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) released a congressional resolution for a Green New Deal. In response, NextGen America Executive Director Heather Hargreaves released the following statement: 

“Young people went to the polls in November to elect leaders who will act on a climate crisis that is already affecting our generation — and hitting people of color and low-income communities the hardest. The Green New Deal resolution is not only a breakthrough toward addressing our country’s most imminent threat but also a bold vision for our nation with justice and opportunity at its core.

“Young people are demanding moral and political courage from our leaders. Members of Congress should support this resolution and follow through on their campaign trail promises to act on climate.”
