NextGen America Statement on President Biden’s Executive Action Pardoning All Federal Marijuana Possessions

In response to President Biden’s executive action to pardon thousands of people convicted of marijuana possession under federal law, NextGen America President Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez released the following statement:

“President Biden has delivered huge victories for young people in recent months from historic action on climate legislation to student debt cancellation, and today we celebrate this remarkable move forward on marijuana policy. One thing is clear: this is the youth agenda in action.

“When young voters turned out in record numbers to elect President Biden in 2020, they wanted to see bold action on progressive policy – and Democrats have shown time and again that they are listening. It is more clear than ever that young people are the driving force behind tangible victories for the change we want to see in this country.

“Make no mistake, young voters are energized and ready to turn out. Ahead of Election Day, NextGen America will leverage these major victories to mobilize young people by the millions to vote for progressive champions who will protect our rights, listen to our voices, and continue this work by legalizing marijuana at the national level.”
