NextGen America Statement on SB 20

In response to North Carolina Republicans overriding Gov. Cooper’s veto on the monster abortion bill, NextGen America President Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez released the following statement:

“We commend Gov. Cooper and the thousands of activists who tirelessly fought to protect women’s reproductive health across North Carolina as we witness this devastating and dangerous moment in the state’s history. One thing is clear: young people will remember every Senate and House Republican that voted to strip them of essential, life-saving health care.

“This clear attack on science, public health, and young North Carolinians only adds fuel to our progressive movement as the largest and most diverse generation in American history. Young people are outraged about the unrelenting attacks on our most basic liberties, but our work has only just begun. We are determined to protect our rights against an extreme right-wing agenda that is hellbent on silencing our voices.

“We will not back down against despicable Republican lawmakers who believe they are above the people they represent. At NextGen America, we are committed to engaging and mobilizing young voters to the ballot box ahead of 2024 to fight for a better, more representative future.”
