NextGen America To Contact Young Voters in Georgia Ahead of Senate Runoffs

Organization aims to reach 18 to 35-year-olds in the Peach State

SAN FRANCISCO — With a Senate majority in play, NextGen America volunteers will begin texting and calling 18 to 35-year-old Georgians Tuesday to mobilize them for the Jan. 5 elections. NextGen America will also produce issue-focused voter guides and spearhead a social media influencer program to motivate young voters to cast ballots for Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff.

Targeting an audience of approximately 850,000 young Georgians, including over 559,000 young Black Georgians, NextGen America will supplement the existing work being driven on the ground in the Peach State. 18 to 29-year-old Black voters powered a red to blue flip of Georgia in the presidential election, backing President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris by a 90% to 8% margin over the incumbents. 18 to 29-year-old voters collectively made up 21% of the Georgia electorate and broke for the Biden-Harris ticket by an 18-point margin, clinching a narrow Democratic victory in the state.

“Without young voters, particularly young Black voters, we would not be looking at a blue Georgia on the Electoral College map,” said NextGen America States Director Jared DeLoof. “Working alongside the people and organizations who made the incredible general election turnout happen, we can achieve a repeat that shifts the balance of power in the Senate.”

Through its distributed organizing program, NextGen America plans to make at least two million attempts at reaching young Georgians through phone calls and text messages. An emphasis will be placed on turning out approximately 475,000 young people who voted absentee or early for November’s election. The social media influencer program will recruit approximately 100 TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram influencers based in Georgia to communicate with their followers about the importance of the runoff elections.

NextGen America will host a kickoff call for organizers and volunteers on Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST.
