New digital and print ad campaign calls out Colorado Governor
SAN FRANCISCO—As state and local leaders around the country step up to lead on climate and clean energy, NextGen Climate today launched a digital ad campaign pressing Colorado Governor Hickenlooper to demonstrate bold climate leadership. This is the latest step by NextGen Climate to mobilize Coloradans to tell Gov. Hickenlooper to live up to his word and join the U.S. Climate Alliance—a bipartisan coalition of states committed to upholding the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Earlier this week, NextGen Climate partnered with 350.org and nearly 40 other organizations to deliver thousands of petition signatures urging the Colorado Governor to join the Climate Alliance.
“States have the power to move our country forward, despite the Trump Administration’s attempts to drag us backwards,” said NextGen Climate President Tom Steyer. “Governor Hickenlooper has a clear opportunity to lead the way on climate and clean energy. Joining the U.S. Climate Alliance would make it clear that Colorado will stand up to the Trump Administration and continue to protect Coloradans’ air, water and climate.”
Gov. Hickenlooper strongly criticized President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement and signed onto a letter in May stating that “maintaining the U.S. commitment is essential to protect our residents, and indeed, all Americans from the potentially catastrophic impacts of a changing climate.” However, he has stopped short of taking concrete steps to protect his citizens from the Trump Administration’s decision. Joining the U.S. Climate Alliance would show Coloradans and the rest of the country that Gov. Hickenlooper means what he says.
The five-figure ad campaign will run on Facebook, Twitter and Google search in Colorado and will ask Coloradans to send letters to Gov. Hickenlooper urging him to join the Climate Alliance. NextGen Climate will also take out a half page ad in the Denver Post this Sunday, highlighting nearly 100 Colorado businesses—representing over 100,000 Colorado jobs and over 10 percent of the state’s GDP—that have committed to taking action to combat climate change.
NextGen Climate will continue to engage and empower Coloradans to make their voices heard and hold their representatives accountable.
