Young voters showed up and made their voices heard during the early vote window and on caucus day, with young voters’ share of caucus votes outperforming 2008 levels. With unique and buzzworthy events like LGBT happy hours and Area 51 themed voter registration booths, NextGen Nevada built a strong on-the-ground program that helped turn out young voters across the Silver State. In addition to a strong student-focused field program that worked across 7 campuses, NextGen Nevada found young voters online and on their phones, providing them with critical information about early voting and boosting participating in this year’s caucus.

“The Nevada Caucus has demonstrated what our team has been seeing on the ground for months now young voters are more fired up than ever before in Nevada and are prepared to send a clear message in November that the road to the White House runs through the youth vote,” said Mark Riffenburg, NextGen Nevada State Director. “The Nevada Republican Party has spent the last year pandering to this administration and ignoring constituents. Young voters in Nevada are putting them on notice with this level of turnout.”

YOUTH VOTER TURNOUT SURGES IN 2020 THANKS TO EARLY VOTE CENTERS ON CAMPUS

Nearly 75,000 people made their voices heard before Saturday’s caucus by casting their ballot at 55 early vote centers across Nevada. NextGen Nevada helped feed hungry students who braved long lines, with wait times of up to 3 hours at UNLV’s campus. Along with a boost in early ballots, the Nevada Democratic Party announced that an additional 10,000 people registered as Democrats during that 4 day period.

YOUTH VOTE EARLY STATE TREND CONTINUES IN NEVADA

Young people in Nevada fueled a healthy margin of victory for Bernie Sanders with two-thirds of voters aged 17-29 signalling support for the Senator in entrance polling. Candidates with strong support from young voters have continued to earn delegates across the first three early vote states proving that the path to the Democratic nomination is paved on college campuses and across young communities.
