NextGen New Hampshire Repudiates Governor Sununu’s Vetoes of Student Voting Rights Bills HB 105 and HB 106

Today, Governor Chris Sununu vetoed HB 105 and HB 106, which were set to repeal voter suppression bills SB 3 and HB 1264. In doing so, Sununu affirmed his intention to bar thousands of students from the ballot box by saddling them with a restrictive poll tax and imposing confusing burdens to the voting process. In response to his vetoes, NextGen New Hampshire State Youth Director Brian Rogers released the following statement:

“Sununu’s vetoes are shameful, vindictive, and unsurprising. By signing SB 3 and HB 1264 into law in the first place, he made it clear that he wanted to strip students of their voting rights. Despite student pleas that he repeal his destructive bills, Sununu has shamelessly defended them. While today’s news is infuriating, young voters in New Hampshire are now more fired up than ever. Come 2020, we’re going to vote Sununu out of office and elect a progressive leader who will support – rather than obstruct – equal access to the ballot box.”
