STATEMENT FROM NEXTGEN CLIMATE PRESIDENT TOM STEYER ON GOVERNOR ANDREW CUOMO’S NEW ACTIONS TO CUT CARBON POLLUTION AND BUILD A CLEAN ENERGY ECONOMY

Today, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that New York will sign the Under 2 MOU, explore building a North American Carbon Market, and commit to bringing solar to 150,000 more homes and businesses by 2020. Below is a statement from NextGen Climate President Tom Steyer on the announcement:

“Today Governor Andrew Cuomo demonstrated critical leadership in the fight against climate change and took bold action to protect New Yorkers’ health, cut pollution, create jobs, spur innovation and drive the Empire State’s economic growth for decades. By joining leaders across the world who have already signed the Under 2 MOU—including in my home state of California—New York is adding critical momentum to the global climate change negotiation process ahead of the U.N. Paris conference in a few months. Under Governor Cuomo’s leadership, New York is showing the nation—and the world— how to take bold and decisive action to cut carbon pollution and build a clean energy economy that works for everyone.”
