“Today, President Obama took the long view—imagining a better future for America and a providing the foundation for a stronger, cleaner economy that will power this country for generations to come. The final Clean Power Plan represents a major turning point. It limits dangerous carbon pollution and creates a framework where our national policy and economic security can be freed from the short-term swings of volatile fossil fuel markets.

This plan is a smart choice for our country. It creates a tremendous opportunity for American business to do what it does best: turn a generational challenge into a story of American ingenuity and foresight.

Even better, this plan is also the right choice. It takes a significant step toward NextGen Climate’s goal of achieving more than 50 percent clean energy by 2030 and transitioning our power sector toward 100 percent clean energy—all while creating good jobs, strengthening our economy and holding to the principle that our children deserve to inherit a cleaner, more secure world.

Americans like to compete, and we like to lead. This plan puts us in a position to lead going forward—economically, technologically and politically.
