Tom Steyer Statement on Family Separation

Following the Trump Administration’s decision to purposely break up children from their families, Tom Steyer issued the following statement:

“We are witnessing one of the most violent and cruel human rights violations in modern American history. The Trump Administration is intentionally and systematically ripping apart families and causing irreversible psychological and emotional damage to innocent children. Our representatives must deliver action that places the well-being of immigrant children above the cynical seeking of political advantage.”

“This administration can lie, deceive, and shift blame, but the American people know that this is not some unfortunate mistake, but represents perfectly the racism and inhumanity of the Trump Administration and the Republican Party. We must stand up today for immigrant families and children as they are attacked, persecuted, and separated. In the past, horrific crimes have been carried out against immigrant communities as this country stood silent. We cannot repeat that shameful and cowardly history. We have the moral obligation to raise our voices in defense of decency and human rights. America must demand better of itself.”
