Young Voters Respond to Michigan Passing Critical Climate Legislation

In response to Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer officially signing critical climate legislation into law, NextGen America President Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez released the following statement:

“Today marks a momentous moment as young voters across Michigan rejoice in the signing of the ‘Clean Energy Future Plan’ into law. This landmark legislative package firmly establishes Michigan as a pioneering force in energy efficiency and sustainability, and its success is undoubtedly owed to the commitment of young people who tirelessly organized and advocated for change.

“In 2022, when young Michigan voters passionately supported progressive candidates, they envisioned precisely this kind of proactive leadership. Clean energy not only makes economic sense but also enjoys widespread support, offers safety, and aligns with our responsibility to safeguard our planet and future.

“Nevertheless, even as we celebrate today’s triumph, it is evident that there is still work ahead of us. Utility companies vigorously opposed this legislation at every juncture, reminding us that our fight continues as we look to 2024 and beyond. We must persist in our efforts to mobilize, educate, and persistently champion a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.”
