Young Voters Respond to UNLV On-Campus Shooting

In response to today’s shooting at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, NextGen America President Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez released the following statement:

“NextGen America stands with the UNLV community – students, faculty, and staff – as they grapple with the horrific on-campus shooting today, reminiscent of the tragedy in Las Vegas on October 1, 2017. The incessant cry for change from young people cannot be ignored any longer. Every person in America deserves to feel safe in their classrooms, workplaces, and neighborhoods. The moment has arrived for Congress to step up and address the urgency of preventing senseless gun violence.

“The imperative for common sense gun policies is clear, and it starts with Congress taking decisive action to implement an assault weapon ban through legislative action. We refuse to grow numb as countless lives are lost to violence that is preventable and actionable.

“As GOP presidential candidates take the stage at the RNC debate tonight, we urgently call upon them to prioritize the issue of gun violence. We ask them to rise above partisan divides and put forth comprehensive plans aimed at curbing the epidemic of senseless shootings in our country. The safety of our communities should be a bipartisan priority, and we look to the candidates to demonstrate leadership and commitment in ensuring a safer and more secure future for all Americans.”
