Who We Are

NextGen America’s mission is to educate and empower young people to organize, vote, and lead. We are connecting with young people on college campuses and online to build community, shift culture, and create change on the issues most important to this generation.

Young people have inherited a rigged economy and a democracy co-opted by special interests and the ultra-wealthy. We believe that when young people have the tools, education, and resources, they will turnout in elections, shape culture, build new systems, and tackle economic inequality and authoritarianism at the root.

In 2013, Tom Steyer founded NextGen America (formerly NextGen Climate) because he believed that young people had the power to determine a new, brighter direction for our country on every major issue. Today, we have evolved and expanded our organizing. This means investing in youth-led culture and action, with a data-backed, layered organizing approach. It starts with strengthening student activism on college campuses, and includes meaningful issue-education campaigns, cultural activations, and digital forward tactics.

Elections are just one moment among many others needed to ensure consistent engagement of young people. We’re listening and uplifting youth voices year-round to ensure we build a country that truly represents the largest and most diverse generation in American history.
