NextGen America Launches First Round of Digital Ads for Andrew Gillum in Florida

Will spend six-figures on digital ads aimed at half a million Floridians under 40 years old

Tallahassee, FL — Today, NextGen America announced the launch of its first round of digital ads in support of Andrew Gillum’s campaign for Florida governor. With a six-figure spend, “Our Turn” and “Lived It” will air on July 24th and run for two weeks on various digital platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Targeting half a million Floridians under 40 years old, both ads focus on Andrew Gillum’s record as a progressive champion and as a fighter for the issues that young Floridians care about.

“We know that young voters are online, and a strong and smart digital campaign will be key to pushing Andrew Gillum across the finish line on August 28th,” said NextGen America President Tom Steyer. “Andrew Gillum is a true progressive champion with a history of standing up for his convictions and doing the right thing. His lived experience, values and ideas resonate with young Floridians across all backgrounds, and will help Democrats win up and down the ticket in November.”

Our Turn” ad highlights Gillum’s track record as a strong advocate on issues that young people are passionate about, including access to high-quality education, criminal justice reform, health care, and common-sense gun control. “Lived It” describes Gillum’s background as the son of working class parents and the first in his family to graduate from college. The ads will run for two weeks and target around 500,000 likely primary and sporadic primary voters under 40 years old, over two-thirds of which are African American and over 60% are female.

NextGen America endorsed Andrew Gillum for Governor last month. Between a $500,000 grant from Tom Steyer to Forward Florida, a political committee affiliated with Gillum’s campaign, and additional funding for NextGen America’s comprehensive field, digital, and mail program to target voters under 40, the endorsement represents an investment of over $1 million in the race to help elect Andrew Gillum.

Since August 2017, NextGen Florida has been engaging, registering and organizing young voters across the state. With over 50 organizers and hundreds of volunteers already on the ground, NextGen has registered over 17,000 and pledged 15,000 young Floridians to vote in 2018. Throughout the summer and into November, NextGen Florida will continue to focus on flipping Congressional Districts 18, 26, and 27 and defending Representative Stephanie Murphy’s and Senator Bill Nelson’s seats. Following the August primary, NextGen Florida will support and work to elect the Democratic gubernatorial nominee.

NextGen’s work with young voters in Florida is part of NextGen Rising — the largest youth organizing program in American history to register, engage, and mobilize young voters, on and off campuses, across eleven states ahead of November 6th, 2018.
